Patrick Maroon completed his hat trick in overtime Friday night as the Norfolk Admirals beat Eastern Conference-leading Syracuse 5-4 before 6,049 at Scope, overcoming a three-goal deficit in the third period to register a crucial victory in their drive to make the AHL playoffs.
Maroon's power-play goal enabled the Admirals (32-29-4-1) climbed into a tie for ninth place in the Eastern Conference with Manchester. Both teams trail Hershey by two points for the East's final playoff berth.
The Crunch, a Tampa Bay affiliate composed of much of the nucleus that won the Calder Cup last season, fell to 39-19-4-5 and is tied for first in the East.
