Longtime Christopher Newport track and field coach Vince Brown is one of six new members being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame of the Lower Virginia Peninsula on May 15.
Brown coached at CNU from 1980-2005, leading athletes to 444 All-America honors and a total of 61 individual and relay national championships.
Brown has been inducted into the Christopher Newport University Athletic Hall of Fame and, in 2006, was named the outstanding Division III women's outdoor track and field coach of the last 25 years by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Brown coached at Hampton High from 1976 until joining CNU till 1980.
Brown will joined by Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, a former player at Denbigh High and William and Mary; Aaron Brooks, a former NFL quarterback and graduate of Ferguson High; former Carver High and Apprentice School standout Willie Brown, who has been instrumental in both the Virginia Special Olympics and the Boo Williams Summer League basketball program; and Buddy Lex, a Newport News High graduate who set a national record in 1949 with 18 touchdown passes at William and Mary.
