The Tigers beat the Royals 6-3 Monday night clinching the American League Central Division title. Detroit will make consecutive playoff appearences for the first time since 1934 and 1935.
Rick Porcello pitched 5 innings to earn his 10th win of the season. Jose Valverde pitched the 9th inning for his 35 save.
Miguel Cabrera was 4 for 5, including his league leading 44th home run of the season. Cabrera now leads the league in batting average, home runs and runs batted in with 2 game to play in the season. No player has won the triple crown in the American League since 1967.
The Tigers will begin the Amercan League Division Series either Saturday or Sunday.
