Another NHL Lockout sure seems likely now.
The Red Wings announced the cancellation of their annual NHLProspects Tournament in Traverse City on Thursday. The reason for the cancellation -- the lack of progress in the current CBA negotiations.
“Due to the uncertainty surrounding the collective bargaining agreement and the advance commitments required from the various parties including hotels, airlines, teams, players and their families, etc. we have determined that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel this year’s tournament," said Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland in a statement released by the organization today. "The Red Wings and the seven other NHL teams that were scheduled to participate are committed to returning to Traverse City in 2013 and continuing with this tremendous tournament.”
The other NHL organizations that were set to participate in the tournament with the Red Wings are Buffalo, Carolina, Columbus, Dallas, Minnesota, St. Louis, and the New York Rangers.
The Red Wings also announced today four new additions to their alumni roster for the Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings Alumni Showdown. Aaron Ward, Jimmy Carson, Red Benson and Dennis Polonich will suit-up for the game being held at Comerica Park on December 31.
In addition to the players having played for the Red Wings they all played in Michigan for a minor league team or collegiate team.
