Going into Friday night's Phoebus-Hampton showdown in the Eastern Region, let's check out who else is out there in Division 5. And, as you'll see, there are some familiar names.
The Phantoms-Crabbers winner will travel to the Central champion next Saturday in the state semifinals, and that will be either Dinwiddie (11-0) or Hanover (11-0). Dinwiddie, you'll recall, lost to the Phantoms in the 2008 state championship game. Hanover lost to Phoebus 10-7 in a muddy state semifinal a year ago.
Hanover has a lot of the same names that gave Phoebus fits last season, like quarterback Sam Rogers (397 total yards last week) and bruising back Deane Cheatham (110 yards, 3 TDs). Dinwiddie has a stronger running game now with Andre Thweatt.
In the Northern, it's sixth-seeded Hayfield vs. (of course) Stone Bridge. The Bulldogs are scary-good again, having outscored its 12 opponents 536-71.
In the Northwest, it's Mountain View vs. Osbourn. Osbourn is led by dual-threat quarterback Dominique Terrell, one of the top recruits in the state, who has 3,004 total yards.
