If it’s December, it’s time to find a high school football coach. There have been more than 50 openings in the last month. The pressure to win, the lack of teaching positions and the growing amount of time required to run a program continue to produce coaching turnover, particularly at public schools.

And again, the wooing will begin with attempts to convince Matt Logan of Corona Centennial to consider leaving for a top private school.

Santa Margarita, which is looking for a coach, would certainly be eager to talk with Logan, who has guided the Huskies to 10 Southern Section titles in 19 years. But the Eagles would need to come up with a lucrative monetary package to make up for Logan leaving the state teachers’ retirement system that’s the best perk for being a public school teacher.

Logan admits through the years “there’s been a couple of inquiries” from private schools but so far, he’s not budging.

“I plan on staying,” he said. “The Corona district has treated me incredibly awesome, especially when I needed it.”

Logan hasn’t forgotten the community support he and his family received when his wife, Donna, battled breast cancer. She died in 2007 at 41.

“I love our school, I love our administration, I love our district, I love our kids,” he said. “It’s been a great situation.”

Concussion rule

Although San Marino quarterback Carson Glazier wanted to play in Saturday’s CIF state championship Open Division small-school championship game, state rules prevented him because of a concussion.

The rule requires a player diagnosed with a concussion to sit out seven days. Glazier suffered a concussion Dec. 12 against Chatsworth Sierra Canyon.

Sacramento games

Friday’s two CIF state championship games at Sacramento State drew a crowd of 6,153.

It’s the first year of a three-year deal to hold the games in Sacramento. They’d been played in Carson since 2006.

It rained Friday but was dry for Saturday’s triple-header. It rained several times when it was held in Carson. The difference is at StubHub Center, there’s roof protection for spectators sitting in the bleachers. There’s no roof at Hornet Stadium.

Recruiting news

Los Angeles Loyola cornerback David Long announced he is no longer headed to Stanford. Washington and Michigan have become his top school candidates. . . . Junior tight end Colby Parkinson of Westlake Village Oaks Christian committed to Stanford.
