Mira Costa, Huntington Beach reach Boras Classic championship game

A year ago, Mira Costa surprised everyone by winning the Boras Classic. Now there should be no surprise that the Mustangs are on a roll once again.

Dylan Dennis got an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning on Thursday night to help Mira Costa move on with a 3-1 semifinal victory over Orange Lutheran.

Junior pitcher Jesse Storey allowed two hits in six shutout innings. Orange Lutheran tied the game, 1-1, with an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh before the Mustangs broke through in the eighth with two runs.

Mira Costa pitchers have allowed two runs in three tournament games.

Mira Costa had a 10-7 record coming in. Now 13-7, the Mustangs will play Huntington Beach in Friday's 6 p.m. South Division championship game at JSerra.

Huntington Beach hit five home runs, including two from Cory Moore, in an 11-9 semifinal win over Corona Santiago. Ben McConnell had two hits and three RBI. Hagen Danner hit his ninth home run. Trevor Windisch had three RBI and also homered.

Cole Cummings had two hits and three RBI for Santiago, which scored five runs in the seventh to give the Oilers a scare.

In consolation games, JSerra defeated Gahr, 3-2. Colin Townsend threw a complete-game five-hitter.

Damien defeated Bishop Amat, 15-1. Isaiah Paige had three hits and three RBI and Andrew Garriola added three hits and two RBI.

Aliso Niguel defeated La Mirada, 9-0. Hunter Jump went four for five. Ethan Reed threw five shutout innings.

Hunter Collins threw six shutout innings in Corona's 1-0 win over Chatsworth. Brendan Beck got the save. Corona will play in the consolation final on Friday at 6 p.m. at Mater Dei.

Mater Dei defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 10-1. Jonathan Schiffer struck out eight in five innings. Kelly Holgate had three RBI. Noah Taylor and Hunter Greene had two hits each for Notre Dame.

El Toro defeated Vista Murrieta, 11-3. Erik Tolman hit a home run Joey Hodapp had four hits and Brandon Luna had three RBI for the Broncos.

Friday's schedule: Orange Lutheran vs. Corona Santiago at JSerra, 3 p.m.; El Toro vs. Notre Dame at JSerra, noon; Vista Murrieta at Mater Dei, noon; Damien at JSerra, 9 a.m.; Chatsworth vs. La Mirada at Mater Dei, 3 p.m.; Aliso Niguel vs. Corona at Mater Dei, 6 p.m.; Gahr vs. Bishop Amat at Mater Dei, 9 a.m.

Alemany won a game of the Righetti tournament, defeating Buhach Colony, 10-0. Timmy Henricks had two hits and two RBI. Clay Rickerman threw five shutout innings.

Chaminade defeated Merced, 6-1. Sophomore Timmy Davoren threw six innings. Reece Weinberg and Cole Reibenspies each had two hits.

Thousand Oaks defeated Ventura, 10-5. Matty Ottino had three hits.

In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated San Fernando, 3-1. Omar Rodriguez had a two-run double and Branden Duarte threw a complete game.
