Prep basketball roundup: Beverly Hills upsets Santa Margarita

Beverly Hills, with little height but lots of experience and plenty of shooters, earned some respect on Monday by knocking off Trinity League power Santa Margarita 66-52 in a nonleague game.

Marcel Stevens scored 33 points, had six assists and seven rebounds. Blake Lander added 14 points and 14 rebounds. Beverly Hills is 16-4.

Rancho Christian and Sierra Canyon traveled to the Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, Ma., and didn’t have good days.

Rancho Christian (19-3) fell to Georgia McEachern 66-55. Sharife Cooper, one of the top junior point guards in the nation, scored 27 points. Evan Mobley scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds for Rancho Christian.

Sierra Canyon (21-2) was routed by Florida Montverde 77-58. It was the second loss to Montverde this season. They lost 57-49 on Dec. 22 in Hawaii. Cassius Stanley scored 25 points for Sierra Canyon.

In Northern California, Josh Camper made a critical three in St. John Bosco’s 68-65 win over Modesto Christian. Josh Adoh had 21 points.

Corona Centennial moved forward to locking up an Open Division playoff spot with a 74-65 win over highly regarded Sheldon. DJ Davis scored 24 points and Allan McBride 19 points.

Kenneth Simpson Jr. scored 19 points in Chaminade’s 86-48 win over Monrovia.

Rolling Hills Prep defeated Los Alamitos 68-38. Vaughn Flowers finished with 16 points.

Windward defeated Foothill 81-42. Freshman Dylan Andrews led the Wildcats with 16 points. Devin Tillis and Jaren Harris had 15 apiece.

Jarod Lucas had 31 points in Los Altos’ 76-55 win over Crean Lutheran.

Onyeka Okongwu scored 38 points in Chino Hills’ 72-61 win over Sacramento Grant.

Makur Maker scored 23 points in Orange Lutheran’s 100-77 win over Cathedral. Cade Potter added 19 points.

Brentwood improved to 20-2 with an 88-70 win over Bakersfield Independence. Freshman Christian Moore had 24 points and 10 rebounds. JR Olofson and Finn O’Rourke each had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Foothills Christian defeated Alemany 64-49. Brandon Whitney led Alemany with 19 points.

Festus Ndumanya had 19 points in Capistrano Valley Christian’s 62-53 win over Corona del Mar.

Kobe White scored 12 points in Santa Monica’s 52-41 win over Eastvale Roosevelt.

Freshman Henri Adiassa scored 20 points and had 27 rebounds in Crossroads’ 73-64 win over Burbank.

Viewpoint defeated Lakeview Charter 76-39. Kian Nader finished with 14 points.

Granada Hills defeated Campbell Hall 61-59. Jonny Garnett had 17 points for Campbell Hall. Jesse Bannout led Granada Hills with 18 points.

El Camino Real defeated Leuzinger 68-51. Jahville Collins had 19 points.

Malik Thomas’ 23 points led Damien past Marina 60-50.

Tesoro (17-5, 6-0) clinched at least a tie for the Sea View League title with a 66-56 win over El Toro.

Calabasas pulled out a 90-84 overtime win over Newbury Park despite 43 points from Matt Solomon. Max Cheylov led Calabasas with 29 points.
