Baseball: Alemany reaches semifinals of Boras Classic

Another day, another extra-inning win for the Alemany Warriors.

Alemany scored five runs in the eighth inning to knock off No. 2-ranked San Clemente, 9-4, and advance to the semifinals of the Boras Classic. The Warriors (13-2) will play No. 1-ranked JSerra at 6 p.m. on Thursday at JSerra. Carter Yankie will be on the mound.

Brandon Lewis had the game’s biggest hit _ a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh inning to tie the game at Mater Dei.

“We can play better, but we’ve definitely shown some toughness,” Alemany Coach Randy Thompson said.

On Tuesday, Alemany won in 10 innings, 5-4, over Palm Desert.

Alemany has won with its backup catcher, Jake Shore, filling in for the injured Rece Reagan, who fouled off a ball on Tuesday that hit him in the face and fractured a bone near his eye socket. He will be sidelined for several weeks.

Also advancing to the semifinals was Huntington Beach with a 7-5 win over Aliso Niguel. Tyler Murray had a two-run home run. Huntington Beach will face Mater Dei at 6 p.m. at Mater Dei. The Monarchs defeated Long Beach Wilson, 4-3. Rece Goodman threw six shutout innings and Jimmy Daley had two hits. Wilson made it close with three runs in the seventh.

JSerra defeated Great Oak, 10-1. Jake Pries had a single, double, triple and four RBI.

In consolation games of the Boras Classic, Josh Garcia struck out nine in Chatsworth’s 4-0 win over Palm Desert. Anthony Renteria had a double and two RBI. Jonathan Russomano struck out seven, walked none and allowed two hits in pitching Birmingham past Vista Murrieta, 2-0.

Chaminade defeated Corona, 1-0, behind pitcher Tommy Costello. Nick Kahle had two hits.

In the National Classic, Agoura advanced to the championship game with a 4-0 win over Monte Vista. David Appleby threw 5 1/3 shutout innings and Bryce Fehmel didn’t allow a hit in relief. Cypress lost to IMG Academy, 2-1. Jason Bush had two hits for Cypress. IMG faces Agoura in Thursday’s 7 p.m. final at Cal State Fullerton.

Santa Margarita defeated Ayala, 8-0. Ryan Buononato threw a one-hitter. Holden Groff threw a one-hitter in Loyola’s 4-1 win over Spanish Fork. Esperanza lost to Christian Brothers, 7-0.

Chris Davidson threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 in Village Christian’s 1-0 win over Cathedral.

Calabasas defeated Bishop Amat, 4-3. Grant Nechak threw a complete game. Greg Cromar and Jon Keller each had two hits. Calabasas defeated Righetti, 3-2, in eight innings. Joey Medellin had the game-winning RBI single.

Austin Rubick struck out 11 and didn’t allow a hit in Buena’s 6-1 win over Cathedral.

Village Christian defeated Lompoc, 7-2.

Camarillo defeated Simi Valley, 6-5. Frankie Tostado and Jake Constantine each had two hits. Jake Whipple went three for three for Simi Valley.

San Dimas improved to 16-0 with a 7-0 win over Maranatha. Jacob Castillo (5-0) struck out 12 and allowed two hits. Jessie Garcia had two hits.

Andres Kim threw a no-hitter in St. Francis’ 3-0 win over Banning.

Fountain Valley defeated Beckman, 7-4. Travis Burleson had two hits and two RBI.

In the Baseline League, Etiwanda rallied from an 8-3 deficit, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning to defeat Chino Hills, 10-9. Tyler Freeman had three hits and four RBI.

Moorpark defeated Royal, 4-3, on a game-winning hit by Greg Dominguez in the 10th inning.

La Mirada won the St. Paul tournament championship with a 6-5 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Aaron Lizaragga had the game-winning home run in the top of the seventh inning. Joe Pace and Hunter Greene had two hits apiece for Notre Dame.

Bonita defeated Glendora, 15-3, in a Palomares League game. Griffen Herrera had four hits in defeat for Glendora.

Sierra Canyon swept a doubleheader from Heritage Christian, 3-1 and 8-2. Christian Hernandez threw a complete game in the first game and Jake Fries had three RBI. Brock Bell went four for five in the second game.

El Modena defeated Irvine, 2-1. Frankie Islas had three hits.

Villa Park defeated Laguna Hills, 7-0.

Warren defeated Mayfair, 4-3, and Glenn, 5-1. Bryan Dunas had three RBI in the first game. Dunas and Steven Nuno each had two hits against Glenn.

Redondo defeated Brea, 5-1, behind Connor Riley, who threw a no-hitter.

In the semifinals of the Ryan Lemmon tournament, Marina defeated Long Beach Poly, 10-2. Long Beach Millikan defeated Trabuco Hills, 1-0. Millikan will face Marina in the final at 6:15 p.m. at Windrow Park.

In San Diego, USC signee Drew Finley of Rancho Bernardo struck out 20 batters to set a San Diego Section large school record in 2-1 win over Ramona.
