Baseball: Burroughs overcomes 6-0 deficit to defeat Chatsworth, 8-7

The outlook was pretty bleak for Burbank Burroughs on Thursday in a quarterfinal game of the Easton Tournament. The Indians trailed Chatsworth, 6-0. But they scored three runs in the six and five in the seventh to pull out an 8-7 victory.

Justin Palafox finished with three hits, including a double and triple. Chatsworth made three errors. Daniel Zakosek had four RBIs for the Chancellors, who suffered their first defeat.

The semifinals on Saturday will match Moorpark at Burroughs and Harvard-Westlake at El Camino Real.

Moorpark 1, Loyola 0: The Musketeers advanced to the Easton tournament semifinals behind left-hander Kenny Brawner, who struck out five, walked none and threw six shutout innings, allowing five hits. Cole Kriger and TJ Foreman had two hits apiece. Moorpark pitchers have thrown 21 consecutive scoreless innings.

Harvard-Westlake 8, Simi Valley 4: Loren Franck contributed three hits and Paul Giacommazi, John Thomas and Leo Kaplan added two hits apiece for the unbeaten Wolverines.

El Camino Real 7, Camarillo 3: Jake Baer, back from having to sit out Tuesday’s game after needing nine stitches from being spiked on a slide at second base last week, hit a two-run home run to power the Conquistadores. Dane Reed had an RBI double. Jordan Berg got the victory.

Oaks Christian 6, Saugus 0: Dane Morrow threw a no-hitter, striking out five and walking two.

Birmingham 2, Crespi 1: The Patriots got a walk-off double from Jorge Navarette in the 11th inning to beat the Celts. Isaac Meza struck out nine in eight innings.

Capistrano Valley 2, JW North 1: Jeremy Taylor struck out six in five innings and Mitchell Nickovich hit a home run to lead Capistrano Valley.

Westlake 4, Taft 0: Tyler Flores hit two home runs for the Warriors. Keefer Meehan allowed one hit in a complete game.

St. John Bosco 6, Riverside Poly 3: Nicholas Morales had a bases clearing double and also pitched 5 1/3 innings to lead the Braves.

Damien 8, Orange Lutheran 7: Andy Garriola and Isaiah Paige each had three hits for Damien. Aaron Kim went four for four to lead Orange Lutheran. Paige threw the final three innings for Damien.

Servite 6, Fountain Valley 2: The Friars improved to 4-0 and got more strong pitching from Sean Paquet.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1, Buena 0: Deandre Carter and Ryan Morris combined on the shutout and Hunter Greene had two hits, including an RBI double.

Calabasas 3, Quartz Hill 0: Diego Ramirez struck out three and allowed two hits in a complete game. Max Sonnenberg had two hits.

Sun Valley Poly 1, Valencia 0: Junior left-hander Danny Pimienta struck out 12 and threw a two-hitter to beat the Vikings.

West Ranch 11, Lancaster 2: Sam Gray went three for three to lead West Ranch. Jason Drees and Cade Spurlin each hit home runs.

Mission Viejo 3, Whitter 2: Tanner Bibee struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings to lead the Diablos.

Newport Harbor 1, Irvine University 0: Jeremiah Sheldon threw a complete game.

Agoura 4, Dos Pueblos 1: Nick Seyler went three for three with the Chargers.

Newbury Park 4, Burbank 0: Carpenter Pagett struck out five in a complete game.

Hart 11, Thousand Oaks 3: Robert Reeves and Grant Thuente had four hits apiece for the Indians.

Cleveland 8, University 0: The Cavaliers (7-0) got a shutout from Anthony Rivera, who struck out eight. Senituli Taufahema, Sam Villa and Gio Cheherlian each had two hits. Cleveland Coach Scott Drootin did not coach the team. Athletic Director Greg Venger said he can’t comment as to the reason for Drootin’s absence because it is a personnel issue but Drootin remains the coach.

Vista Murrieta 7, El Modena 5: Mitch Moralez and Brandon Luna had two hits apiece for the Broncos.

Tesoro 1, Corona Santiago 0: Spencer Heinsius threw five shutout innings and Brian Fettis followed with two shutout innings in relief to lift Tesoro.

Granada Hills 3, Culver City 2: Chris Murphy improved to 2-0, striking out nine. Noeh Castillo had two RBIs.

Village Christian 14, Malibu 4: The Crusaders got their bats going in an Easton tournament win.

Beckman 10, Ayala 7: Tyler Geurts had three hits and two RBIs and Austin Schell added two hits and three RBIs for Beckman. Matt Acosta had three hits for Ayala.

Oak Park 5, Filmore 1: Matt Williams threw a complete game.

Aliso Niguel 5, Katella 2: Zak Nocon pitched Aliso Niguel to victory.

Alemany 10, Ventura 4: Brandon Lewis drove in three runs and Dominic Ruggiero and Jake Shore had two hits apiece.

Sierra Canyon 7, Glendale 2: Billy Edwards hit a three-run home run and had a double for Sierra Canyon.

Brentwood 13, St. Bernard 1: Freshman Evan Abraham had a grand slam and Jason Starrels had four hits and five RBIs.

Paraclete 7, Channel Islands 2: Ricky Jimenez picked up the win.

Hemet 10, Westminster 0: Eli Necochea allowed one hit in six innings. Cameron Leonard had four RBIs.

JSerra 10, Gahr 3: Davis Wendzel hit a grand slam and Royce Lewis had two hits.

San Fernando 4, Roosevelt 3: Sophomore Steven Villagran improved to 2-0 with his second complete game.
