Boys’ basketball: Aaron Holiday scores 37 points in Campbell Hall victory

The Southern California Regional basketball playoffs began on Wednesday night, and Aaron Holiday of Campbell Hall was ready to go.

He scored 37 points and had 10 rebounds in the Vikings’ 78-64 victory over View Park in the Division IV playoffs. De’Anthony Melton scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in Crespi’s 78-49 win over Granite Hills. Mike Krkeyan added 15 points. Maranatha defeated Pacific Ridge, 101-54. Tyler Dorsey had 37 points.

Chaminade defeated LACES, 72-50. Jake Porath scored 13 points. Michael Oguine had 10 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. Chaminade will play at Maranatha on Saturday in a game that will feature former Chaminade player Trevor Stanback against his old school.

In Division I, Redondo defeated Dorsey, 79-69. Morgan Means had 17 points. Corona Centennial defeated Granada Hills, 72-42. Ike Anigbogu had 20 points and eight rebounds. Michael Kalu had 16 points for Granada Hills. Chino Hills defeated Bullard, 83-67. Village Christian defeated Fresno Edison, 64-52. Bennie Boatwright had 34 points and 20 rebounds. Village Christian will travel to Centennial in its next game.

Long Beach Poly defeated Sylmar, 77-61. Sylmar Coach Bort Escoto was ejected for the first time in two seasons.

“You don’t throw out a coach when he has his back turned and is subbing in a player,” Escoto said. “My assistant told me I was ejected.”

In Division II, Tommy McCarthy scored 28 points in La Costa Canyon’s 74-53 win over Tesoro. Lawndale defeated Grant, 87-45. Brodricks Jones had 17 points and 10 rebounds. TJ Johnson added 15 points for Lawndale.

In Division III, Damien defeated Selma, 86-53. Jeremy Hemsley had 20 points. Alemany received 14 points apiece from DJ McDonald and Shac Dawkins in a 72-49 win over West Bakersfield.

In Division IV, De’Anthony Melton scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in Crespi’s 78-49 win over Granite Hills. Mike Krkeyan added 15 points.

In Division V, Viewpoint defeated Kern Valley, 67-19. Miye Oni had nine points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
