Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei opens with win in Chicago

Santa Ana Mater Dei opened its basketball season Friday in Chicago, knocking off Marian Catholic, 58-46.

Oregon-bound MJ Cage scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds. Justice Sueing added 15 points.

De’Anthony Melton scored 30 points in Crespi’s 59-54 win over Viewpoint. Brandon Williams added 15 points. Christian Juzang had 23 point for Viewpoint.

Harvard-Westlake defeated Heritage Christian, 76-59. Ali Iken had 22 points and Cassius Stanley 20. St. Francis lost to Washington Kings Way, 63-51. Joey Walsh had 18 points.

In the Centennial tournament, Chino Hills defeated Cathedral, 110-54. Lonzo Ball had 36 points. LiAngelo Ball had 26 points and LaMelo Ball 24. Jalen Hill had 21 points and Jordan Griffin 20 in Centennial’s 80-55 win over Etiwanda.

In the Weschester semifinals, Bishop Montgomery defeated Dorsey, 80-52. Westchester defeated JW North, 65-51. They will meet in Saturday’s final. In consolation games, St. Bernard defeated Campbell Hall, 61-52. Jordan Cohen had 27 points in defeat. Taft defeated Hart, 59-29. Kihei Clark had 19 points.

In the El Segundo tournament, Henry Welsh had 15 points and 21 rebounds in Loyola’s 77-60 win over Venice. Fairfax defeated El Segundo, 78-41. Babacar Thiombane had 16 points.

In the Maranatha tournament, Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Maranatha, 52-43. Jacob Davison scored 26 points. Pasadena defeated Notre Dame, 69-59. Tyrek Adams and Ben Burgoyne had 20 points each. Jonathan Stretesky had 22 points for Notre Dame. Westlake defeated Muir, 44-30. Adam Hess had 12 points.

Villa Park defeated Monrovia, 69-44. Damien stayed unbeaten with a 76-56 win over Walnut. Bryce Peters scored 25 points. Liam Ryan added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

La Mirada will play Long Beach Jordan on Saturday at 7 in the championship game of the Anaheim Canyon tournament. La Mirada defeated Canyon, 70-54. Anthony Newman scored 26 points. Servite defeated Northwood, 68-55. Cameron Griffin had 28 points.

In the Burbank tournament, Village Christian will play Renaissance in the 5 p.m. final. Village Christian defeated Golden Valley, 88-72. Josh Caston had 22 points.

Granada Hills defeated Grant, 64-52. Jonathan Reese scored 12 points.

Zac Jervis had 17 points and 15 rebounds in Orange Lutheran’s 78-52 win over El Dorado.

Cleveland defeated Middle College, 63-62. Roman Morales had 21 points.

Justen Miller scored 24 points in Highland’s 77-57 win over Oaks Christian. San Marino defeated Providence, 46-31.

Birmingham defeated Kennedy, 74-67. Devante Doutrive had 31 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

St. John Bosco stayed unbeaten with a 68-59 win over Chaminade. JJ Watson had 20 points.

Ryan Campbell had 15 points and 10 rebounds to help Crenshaw reach the final of the Whitney tournament with a 60-48 win over El Diamante.
