Boys’ basketball: D.J. McDonald scores 31 points for Alemany

Alemany traveled to Illinois to begin its basketball season on Wednesday and came away with a 69-61 win over St. Louis Riverview.

Sophomore guard D.J. McDonald scored 31 points and senior guard Shacquille Dawkins had 18 points and 10 assists.

In the Calabasas tournament, freshman Cassius Stanley had a dunk to remember and the Wolverines (2-0) defeated Moorpark, 57-46, to advance to Friday’s 4:30 p.m. semifinals against Calabasas. Wolfgang Novogratz had 14 points and Stanley 13 for the Wolverines. Dawson Legum scored 24 points for Moorpark.

Calabasas (2-0) defeated Malibu, 83-23. Ryan Murphy had 26 points.

Josh Hauser scored 27 points to help Chaminade (2-0) defeat Agoura, 74-68. The Eagles will face Viewpoint in Friday’s 3 p.m. semifinal. Viewpoint received 23 points from Christian Juzang in a 73-53 win over Beverly Hills. Ron Artest had 18 points for Beverly Hills.

In the El Monte tournament, L.A. University (2-0) advanced with an 85-56 win over Hoover. Bryce Patterson scored 23 points and Jude Agbasi added 20.
