Boys’ basketball: Damien is Baseline League champion

Before the season began, there weren’t too many people predicting that Damien would beat out Chino Hills and Etiwanda for the Baseline League championship. That’s what happened on Thursday night afer Damien came away with a 76-43 win over Rancho Cucamonga.

Damien finished the regular season at 23-3 and 9-1. Malik Fitts scored 22 points and Jeremy Hemsley 18. Damien will be a certain pick for the Open Division. Etiwanda defeated Upland, 62-41.

In the Foothill League, Hart earned a share of the league title with Valencia after defeating the Vikings, 55-48. Myles Franklin had 21 points.

In the Trinity League, Mater Dei finished another league season unbeaten after a 65-36 win over Servite. Rex Pflueger had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Orange Lutheran took second place with an 89-60 win over St. John Bosco. The Braves were without Vance Jackson (sick). Rogers Printup had 18 points.

In the Bay League, Redondo won the championship with a 73-44 win over Mira Costa. Michael Munn had 16 points.

In the Marmonte League, Thousand Oaks took the title after a 59-19 win over Newbury Park. Matt Hauser had 20 points for the Lancers (24-3, 9-1). Westlake finished second by beating Oaks Christian, 56-53. Alvie Thompson led a balanced attack with 11 points. Calabasas defeated Agoura, 43-41.

In the Ocean League, Santa Monica defeated El Segundo, 60-25. Jayce Johnson had 18 points and 20 rebounds. Jonah Mathews added 20 points.

Pasadena won the Pacific League with a 67-64 win over Muir. Tyrek Adams scored 19 points. It was the 11th consecutive league title for the Bulldogs.

Los Alamitos earned a share of the Sunset League title with Edison after beating the Chargers, 82-73. Junior Eyassu Worku scored 28 points for Los Alamitos.

In the Olympic League, Maranatha finished unbeaten after a 71-39 win over Heritage Christian. Tyler Dorsey scored 25 points.

La Mirada won its first Suburban League title since 1982 with a 68-53 win over Artesia.

Buckley won its 11th Libertyy League title in the last 12 years with a 57-22 win over Yeshiva. Kihei Clark had 17 points and Brendon Ferguson 16.
