Boys’ basketball: Garfield upsets Verdugo Hills in City Section Division II
Garfield received 17 points and eight rebounds from Stevie Williams to upset No. 3-seeded Verdugo Hills, 66-59, in a City Section Division II quarterfinal playoff game on Wednesday.
Garfield advances to play Granada Hills in the semifinals. Granada Hills defeated Bell, 53-20.
Top-seeded Sylmar defeated Chatsworth, 67-50. Devenir Duruisseau scored 21 points. The Spartans will play Sun Valley Poly in the semifinals after the Parrots knocked off South Gate, 75-68. Sal Gonzalez scored 28 points and Cesar Reyes 15 for Poly. Joshua Conde had 32 points and Gerardo Zavala 23 for South Gate.
In Division III, Grant defeated Hollywood, 62-44. Udy Ivazov scored 23 points and had 15 rebounds. The Lancers will face Eagle Rock, a 54-51 winner over King-Drew. No. 1 Huntington Park defeated North Hollywood, 45-40, and will play Hamilton in the semifinals. Hamilton defeated Marshall, 53-38.
In Division V, View Park Prep defeated Harbor Teacher, 90-27. Chance Comanche had 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. TJ Wilson scored 17 points, Darryl McMillon 14 and Jason Carter 12.
In Division IV, Rancho Dominguez defeated L.A. Jordan, 71-49.
