Boys’ basketball: It’s a Mater Dei-Chino Hills Open Division final

Santa Ana Mater Dei will face Chino Hills for the Southern Section Open Division championship on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Honda Center.

On Tuesday night, M.J. Cage scored 24 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Mater Dei past Riverside North, 62-49. North went on a 15-0 run in the third quarter to threaten the Monarchs (30-0), but Mater Dei took charge in the fourth quarter. Stanley Johnson had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Deshon Taylor led North with 16 points.

Chino Hills won its 16th consecutive game with a 70-61 victory over Redondo. Kenneth Cyprian scored 23 points, Lonzo Ball had 16 and LiAngelo Ball 11.

In the consolation bracket, Sierra Canyon defeated Chamiande, 52-47. Bishop Montgomery defeated St. John Bosco, 64-63. Daniel Hamilton scored 24 points for St. John Bosco. Stevie Thompson Jr. had 21 points and Justin Bibbins 17 for Bishop Montgomery.

In 1AA, Long Beach Poly held off Inglewood, 48-47. Mission Viejo defeated Long Beach Millikan, 76-59. In 1A, Chris Lott scored 31 points in Riverside King’s 70-63 win over Perris. Villa Park defeated Temecula Valley, 57-56.

In 2AA, Anaheim Canyon will play Westlake for the championship. Westlake defeated Foothill, 64-56. Marcos Soto scored 22 points, Isaiah Brooks 15 and Jeremiah Gray 12.

In 2A, Sonora will face Calabasas, which defeated Tustin, 56-49. Larry Bush scored 17 points, Austin Smith 13 and Justin Bessard 10. Calabasas lost standout point guard Jeremy Lieberman to ankle sprain in the second quarter. His availability for Saturday is uncertain. He was receiving physical therapy on Tuesday night.
