Boys’ basketball: It’s a neighborhood 1A final featuring Edison against Foothill

Share

The final championship game of a long day on Saturday at Honda Center will feature neighborhood teams from Orange County, Huntington Beach Edison (25-6) and Santa Ana Foothill (27-3), in the 8:30 p.m. Division 1A. That should make the game extra competitive.

Pulling out the top teams to play in the Open Division has allowed some neighborhood teams to prosper, and this game will be proof.

Edison can fire up threes en masse, though it will be a little bit harder making them in an arena setting. The Chargers’ first 21 points in a semifinal win over No. 1-seeded Loyola came from three-point range. Senior A.J. Garrity is one of the players to watch. He had 20 points against Loyola.

Foothill, the No. 2 seed, has been consistent all season. Senior Riley O’Hearn leads a balanced attack, averaging 13.9 points. The 6-foot guard scored 27 points in a semifinal win over Peninsula.
