Boys’ basketball: MVP Kihei Clark leads Taft to Beverly Hills tournament title

Tournament MVP Kihei Clark had 198 points to help Taft defeat Washington, 65-45, on Saturday night in the championship game of the Beverly Hills tournament.

Taft is surging under Coach Derrick Taylor in his return to the Woodland Hills campus. Travis Patrick added 18 points.

In consolation games of the Beverly Hills tournament, Loyola defeated Windward, 64-62. Henry Welsh had 22 points and 12 rebounds. Brentwood defeated Leuzinger, 59-55, in overtime.
In Texas, Dorsey lost to Diamond Ranch, 61-57. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Birmingham, 64-62, in double overtime. Devante Doutrive had 29 points for Birmingham.

Orange Lutheran took third place with a 72-56 win over El Camino Real. Joseph Riley had 17 points.

Mater Dei won the Corona del Mar tournament with a 63-50 win over Compton. Justice Sueing had 19 points.

Sierra Canyon won its own tournament championship with a 76-55 victory over Alemany. Remy Martin finished with 19 points for Sierra Canyon. Ira Lee was named tournament MVP.

Westlake defeated Chatsworth, 59-43. Adam Hess led Westlake with 20 points. Calabasas defeated Granada Hills, 80-55. Ryan Murphy finished with 17 points and Jack Roggin 16. La Canada defeated Oak Park, 61-53. Sean Estes had 27 points. Riley Battin led Oak Park with 29 points.

In Arizona, Crespi defeated Gilbert Christian, 85-69. Taj Regans contributed 27 points, Brandon Williams 24 and De’Anthony Melton 20.

Joel Finney scored 43 points but Central City fell to Venice, 70-60.

South Gate defeated Hawthorne, 59-54. Cameron Ybarra had 20 points.

Viewpoint won the Ventura tournament with a 52-33 win over Camarillo. Tournament MVP Christian Juzang scored 20 points.

Harvard-Westlake won the El Segundo tournament with a 73-47 win over La Salle. Tourney MVP Wolfgang Novogratz had 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Carter Begel added 18 points and Ali Iken 17.

Rancho Mirage improved to 8-0 with a 75-29 win over Palm Desert. Daryn Evans had 26 points.

San Marino won the Pasadena Poly tournament with a 52-50 win over Bosco Tech. Chuma Azinge made a buzzer-beater shot from 18 feet. It was San Marino’s first tournament title in six years. Azinge, a sophomore, finished with 21 points. Alex Cate added 20 points.

Tarbut V’Torah took third place in the Santa Ana Valley tournament with a 46-36 win over Los Amigos. Brandon Averitt and Isaac Abecassis each had 15 points.

Lawndale lost in the championship game of the El Rancho tournament to Los Altos, 69-62, despite 21 points from Eddie Keemp.
