Chaminade players will get ‘reminder’ after forgetting to bring their shoes

Chaminade played 15 sophomores on Friday in a 43-38 win over Valencia. Coach Ed Croson said the youth has led to lots of interesting situations, such as two first-year players forgetting to bring their cleats to the road game and another forgetting to bring his shoulder brace.

“It’s so comical,” he said.

Croson said none of the players get into trouble for failing to remember a basic requirement such as bringing their shoes, but they will get a reminder on Monday.

It’s called “Eagle Reminders.”

Players have to run the length of the field six times and hit their stomach reminding them what they did wrong.

“We don’t tell them, ‘You’ll be in trouble.’ We tell them, ‘We’ll remind you,’” Croson said.

Assistant coach Milton Knox was nice enough to loan one player his shoes in his car trunk.

Chaminade received 211 yards passing from senior quarterback Tommy Costello, a left-handed pitcher headed to Washington to play baseball. Croson might need to get some baseball help from Costello.

Asked if Costello is his left-handed version of the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw, Croson said, “I don’t even know who Kershaw is.”
