City Section to hold 10 soccer championships

When it comes to soccer, the City Section can more than hold its own against the Southern Section or any teams in the state. City Section schools have been loaded with talent, from El Camino Real to Birmingham to Bell.

This season, the section has decided to expand to five playoff divisions and 10 overall championships. There will be five boys’ championships and five girls’ championships.

And the divisions made up of more than 100 teams are divided based only on enrollment, which could create some interesting scenarios. There are some good programs with small enrollments.

Here’s the division makeups:

Division I: Taft, San Fernando, Garfield, Torres, Huntington Park, Monroe, Marshall, Banning, Carson, Van Nuys, Roosevelt, San Pedro, North Hollywood, Narbonne, Palisades, South Gate, Hamilton, Cleveland, Bell, El Camino Real, Birmingham, Poly, Granada Hills.

Division II: Marquez, West Adams, Wilson, Eagle Rock, Contreras, University, Reseda, Rivera, Santee, Angelou, Bravo, RFK, Chavez, Locke, Fairfax, Kennedy, Venice, Grant, South East, Sylmar, Fremont, Chatsworth.

Division III: Dorsey, Valley Academy, Maywood, Westchester, Washington, Bernstein, Jefferson, Hawkins, Belmont, Panorama, Roybal, Franklin, Manual Arts, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Arleta, King Drew, Lincoln, Verdugo Hills, Gardena, Sotomayor, Canoga Park.

Division IV: Animo Venice, Alliance Collins, De La Hoya, Bunche, Stern, Sun Valley, Animo South, Mendez, Elizabeth, Foshay, East Valley, Orthopedic, Fulton, Rancho Dominguez, LACES, Port of L.A., Sherman Oaks, CES, Downtown Magnets, Crenshaw, Jordan, Northridge, Legacy.

Division V: CALS, Ivy, Academia Avance, Los Angeles International, Triumph, Lakeview, USC MAst, Discovery, Camino Nuevo, New Designs, Middle College, Harbor Teacher, Community Early College, Central City, Anneberg, Bright Star, Alliance Gertz-Ressler, Alliance Environmental, Dymally, Vaughn, Animo Jackie Robinson.
