Football: City Section Division II predictions

Share

The City Section Division II football playoffs resume on Friday with quarterfinal games.

Lincoln at Hamilton: The top-seeded Yankees are probably too big, too fast and too physical for Lincoln. I can’t wait until 6-foot-6 quarterback Armani Rogers shakes hands with 5-3 defensive back Albert Ramirez. And that’s the big warning for Hamilton: The Tigers will fight to the last second. They are proud, pesky and don’t mind being overlooked. The pick: Hamilton.

South Gate vs. University at Venice: The duo of quarterback Andrew Toro and running back Lavell Thompson from South Gate will be tested by a good University defense. I just don’t think University has enough offense to outscore the Rams. The pick: South Gate.

Chatsworth at Sylmar: The Spartans keep getting better week after week. That’s the key for them to emerge as Division II champions. Quarterback Clarence Williams is developing other weapons to support him. Chatsworth will need to run the ball effectively to have a chance. The pick: Sylmar.

San Fernando at Eagle Rock: The versatile Nick Novanelly has been Eagle Rock’s best player, and as long as the Eagles find a way to get him touches, they’ll be fine. San Fernando has been slowly getting its inexperienced players experience, so this is like the first game of 2015. The pick: Eagle Rock.
