Football: Crespi’s Troy Thomas turns to his wife for help this week

Football coaches who are married and have children are turning to the MVPs of their families this week -- their wives.

It’s Halloween on Friday, and the kids are scrambling for costumes and candy. Guess who’s put in charge of that?

“My wife took care of Halloween,” Crespi Coach Troy Thomas said. “We’re getting ready for Alemany.”

Stacey Thomas has helped their four children pick out costumes. The two daughters will be the sisters from Frozen. The oldest son is going to be a cool squirrel. And the youngest son will be a snowman.

Meanwhile, Thomas has Crespi at 7-1 and 4-1 in the Mission League with a bye this week while preparing for next week’s title decider against Alemany.

His team didn’t attempt a single pass in a 50-17 win over Chaminade last week.

“We’ve actually been working real hard on the passing game,” he said. “I think we can beat people passing, but it’s hard not to run when you’re averaging 10.8 yards a carry. It’s weird, but we were never in a passing situation. I’ve been coaching for 23 years and have never been in a game that you didn’t pass at least once.”
