Football: Dorsey begins season under new coach Irvin Davis

Share

The Irvin Davis era at Dorsey High begins on Friday afternoon at Hamilton. Davis, a former junior varsity coach, takes over for the legendary Paul Knox.

Davis has been around Dorsey for 25 years. He knows the fans want success.

“I’m very familiar with the process,” he said.

Like Knox, Davis will have to deal with changing times, which means lack of depth because of dwindling school enrollment.

But he has put together a quality coaching staff in which many of the assistants are former Dorsey players.

“We had a good summer and good spring,” Davis said. “We’re enthusiastic about starting the season.”

Junior Jerman Gotoy will be the quarterback. Middle linebacker Michael Jackson has been the leader on defense.

Friday’s 3 p.m. start means it will be hot and humid. Hamilton won the Division II championship last season and returns All-City quarterback Armani Rogers.
