Football: First TD in Super Bowl 50 scored by former Birmingham standout Malik Jackson

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Malik Jackson will be the answer to the trivia quesiton, “Who scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl 50?”
The former Birmingham High defensive end fell on a fumble by Cam Newton in the end zone. It was the first career TD for Jackson, 26, who played for USC and Tennessee. The Broncos beat the Panthers, 24-10.
Jackson and his twin brother, Marquis, helped Birmingham win City Section titles in 2006 and 2007. They also attended Van Nuys Middle School.
“Let me tell you, we’re so happy for him,” former Birmingham Coach Ed Croson said. “I’m so proud of him. The ball bounced to him but if you hustle, good things happen. He made a bunch of good plays in the game. Just to be there and be a starter and make plans, man. He’s been playing well all year. It’’s so cool to see him play at that level.”
It was another big moment for the City Section. Malcolm Smith (Taft) and John Elway (Granada Hills) are former Super Bowl MVPs.
