In winning its seventh consecutive game and setting up a showdown with unbeaten Narbonne next week, San Pedro turned to the Gafa brothers, Sohl and Junior, to defeat Banning, 20-7, on Saturday in a Marine League game at the Coliseum.

Sohl, a senior defensive end, had two sacks and was on crutches by the end of the game with an ice pack on his knee. Junior, a sophomore linebacker, had a first-quarter interception and several tackles.

For them to play together is a family moment that will be cherished.

“It’s an opportunity of a lifetime,” Junior said. “It only comes once.”

Said Sohl: “There’s nothing like it.”

San Pedro (7-1, 3-0) opened a 20-0 halftime lead and thoroughly frustrated the previously unbeaten Pilots (6-1, 2-1). Quarterback Austin Jackson was outstanding. He passed for 134 yards and ran for 62 yards.

Kicker Tanner Carcamo created excitement at the end of the first half by booming a 48-yard field goal.

Banning’s Joe Villarreal had a 42-yard touchdown run and finished with 98 yards in 17 carries.
