Football: Garfield gets big win over Venice behind Stevie Williams
There’s been lots of talk that Garfield is ready to become one of the four best teams in City Section Division I, and the Bulldogs took a big step with a 32-25 win over Western League power Venice on Friday night.
Stevie Williams completed nine of 11 passes for 131 yards and also ran for 92 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Garfield (2-2) opens Eastern League play next week against Bell.
Greg Johnson of Hawkins ran for 368 yards and scored five touchdowns in a 74-0 win over L.A. Jordan.
Lavell Thompson ran for 234 yards and scored three touchdowns in South Gate’s 49-19 win over Franklin. Tony Washington added 126 yards rushing.
Sean Riley rushed for 213 yards, but Narbonne was beaten by Gardena Serra, 37-14.
