Football: Hawkins has 15 days to respond to LAUSD allegations

Share

Hawkins, 9-0 in football and seeded No. 1 in the City Section Division II playoffs, received allegations of possible ineligible players from the Los Angeles Unified School District’s athletics office on Nov. 2 and has 15 days to respond, according to district officials on Monday.

It will be up to Hawkins whether to play the students in question during the playoffs. If it’s later determined that the players are ineligible, Hawkins would have to forfeit those games.

Hawkins is being allowed to participate in the playoffs because the investigation was not completed before the seeding meeting on Saturday, City Section Commissioner John Aguirre said. Hawkins can win the City title if there are no ineligible players participating during the playoffs.

Once Aguirre receives the response from Hawkins and LAUSD, he will determine if players were ineligible and if there will be forfeits or sanctions. Hawkins was ineligible for the 2015 playoffs because of ineligible players found during the 2014 season.
