It’s bye week for the six schools in the Trinity League, so giving the players a little break is appropriate. Even Santa Ana Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson is mellowing in his 28th season.

He took his players bowling on Monday night, setting up a competition between the offense and the defense. The defense won by a single point.

Leading the way as the top bowler was defensive lineman Nathan Logoleo, who finished with a 186, including four strikes. He might have been a ringer, since he goes bowling with his father.

Tommy Brown, a 6-foot-8 offensive lineman, did bowl one strike. His focus was on how hard he could roll the ball, something he must have learned from his father, Vince, the baseball coach at Foothill.

“I got it up to 26 mph,” Brown said. “I’m sticking with football.”

The No. 1-ranked Monarchs are 5-0 and play Santa Margarita next Friday in their Trinity League opener.
