Football: Rick Wade has huge performance for Santa Margarita

It was the only game matching a Trinity League team against a Mission League team. And it didn't disappoint.

Back and forth Santa Margarita and Bishop Amat went until Santa Margarita finally came away with a 26-21 victory on Friday night. Rick Wade, a defensive end committed to UCLA from Santa Margarita, recorded 13 tackles, including a sack. The Eagles had to stop Bishop Amat one final time on a drive to the seven-yard line in the fourth quarter to prevail.

KJ Costello passed for 308 yards and two touchdowns.

Trinity League teams are 4-1 in season openers. Mission League teams are 6-1.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame unleashed junior running back Leo Lambert III, who hadn't played since his freshman season, and senior receiver CJ Sanders, a transfer from Tennessee. Lambert rushed for 306 yards and three touchdowns in a 70-34 win over Mira Costa. Sanders scored five touchdowns _ two on receptions, two on runs and another on a kickoff return.

Loyola's large class of talented juniors served notice in a 48-6 win over Harvard-Westlake. Daniel Tolbert rushed for 135 yards in six carries and scored three touchdowns. Loyola did lost two players who were ejected during a pushing incident on the opening series. They won't be able to play next week against Lakewood unless the Cubs appeal.

La Mirada pulled off one of the biggst upsets of the night, knocking off Tesoro, 26-23. Christian Lara, a transfer from Santa Fe, completed 16 of 22 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
