Football: The rise of Newbury Park sophomore QB Cameron Rising is not surprising

Share

Newbury Park had a quarterback competition for its starting spot during the summer, but word spread quickly that no one was beating out sophomore Cameron Rising. Then came real evidence when at least two quarterbacks transferred out.

Rising is proving to be the real deal.

After five games, he has passed for 1,722 yards and 24 touchdowns. Washington State became the first school to offer him a scholarship on Tuesday. Washington State also offered his older brother, Tyson, a 290-pound lineman at Ventura College

He has 18 touchdown passes in his last three games.

He’s 6 feet 3 and also plays basketball and participates in track and field.

And he’s humble, too.
