Football: With no Chaminade and no Serra, beware of St. Francis

Share

St. Francis fought very hard to avoid being moved into the new Mission League, where former rivals Chaminade and Gardena Serra were placed.

Now the Golden Knights are favored in the new Angelus League and just might win a section title in the Southeast Division.

St. Francis certainly looked impressive in a 41-7 rout of Chino last week in its opener.

Quarterback Jeremiah Martin, who didn’t play last season, passed for 214 yards and three touchdowns. That comes as no surprise, since his head coach, Jim Bonds, is pretty good quarterback coach, and he has a standout junior receiver in Dylan Crawford.

The player who could be headed for a huge season is new running back Areg Nazarian, who had touchdown runs of 14, 43 and 35 yards and finished with 128 yards in nine carries.

St. Francis’ toughest test of the season could be Friday on the road against Moorpark (2-0).
