Girls' basketball: Katie Lou Samuelson is Gatorade state player of the year

Katie Lou Samuelson of Santa Ana Mater Dei has been named the Gatorade state player of the year in girls' basketball.

The 6-foot-3 senior has led Mater Dei to a 28-2 record, averaging 29.5 points and 8.6 rebounds.

She has a 4.26 GPA and has signed with Connecticut.

Mater Dei will host Long Beach Poly in the semifinals.
