Softball: Carson holds off Banning, 5-4
No. 2-seeded Carson got a little scare from Marine League rival Banning on Friday but still prevailed, 5-4, in a City Section Division I softball quarterfinal playoff game.
Brianna Tautalafua hit a three-run home run for the Colts. Carson will play Birmingham, a 2-0 winner over Granada Hills, in the semifinals.
Kyla Gender struck out nine to help top-seeded Chatsworth defeat Kennedy, 3-2. Azzie Anderson hit a two-run home run for the Chancellors.
Chatsworth will face Port of Los Angeles, a 2-1 winner over El Camino Real, in the semifinals.
