Track: Michael Norman, T.J. Brock turn on the speed

Juniors star at Southern Section track championships

On a breezy afternoon at Cerritos College, juniors Michael Norman of Vista Murrieta and T.J. Brock of Chaminade showed why they are two of the fastest, most talented track and field performers in the nation at the Southern Section championships.

Norman ran a wind-aided 20.39 200 meters in winning the Division 1 race, the fastest performance ever by a California athlete. He also won the 400 in 45.99.

Brock won the Division 3 100 in a wind-aided 10.20, tying his best time. Only former Taft standout Quincy Watts has run faster in California. He won the 200 in 20.78.

In the girls’ Division 4 200, sophomore Lauren Rain Williams of Oaks Christian ran a wind-aided 22.68, putting her in company with the likes of Marion Jones and Alysson Felix.

In the girls’ Division 2 100, junior Zaria Francis of Rio Mesa ran a wind-aided 11.24, another swift clocking.

Matt Katnik of St. John Bosco set a Division 3 record in the shotput at 71-11 1/2.

Vista Murrieta ran away with the Division 1 boys’ title.
