Another golf season has come to an end, at least in the time frame similar to the FedEx Cup season. Now, it’s time for the Fall Series.
At least it is one that I hope I’ll be able to get a round or two in before the snow hits.
The calendar told some of us that the MISGA schedule concluded with the season-ending banquet. For those who don’t know what MISGA is, it is a 50-and-over senior group out of Beaver Creek that plays in mixers at home and at various other member clubs.
I’ve got to pass on a tidbit from the banquet, courtesy of our club rep Terry Gossard, who opened the activities reminding all of us what MISGA really stands for — not really Maryland Interclub Senior Golf Association, but the Memory Is Slowly Going Away group.
Thought that was a good one, Terry.
* Anyway, in recent tournament activity, Beaver Creek pro Dirk Schultz finished in a tie for third place in the Mid-Atlantic PGA Pro Championship with a 73 at Members Club at Four Streams.
Schultz will team with Black Rock pro Tim Reeves Oct. 22-23 in the MAPGA two-man team championship to be played at Salisbury Country Club. There are 19 teams entered.
* Ashley Grier, going through the PGA Apprentice program at Beaver Creek, was the lone female to play in the recent MAPGA Tournament of Champions at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
Grier finished sixth overall with a 71-73-144, 4 over for the event won by Rick Schuller with a 139.
Obviously Grier won Player of the Year points in the women’s standings.
On Oct. 8-9, Grier finished third in the Maryland Open, played at River Marsh Golf Club in Cambridge, Md. Grier had a 3-over-par 145 for two rounds, five behind champion Whitney Neuhauser of Virginia.
* The 13th annual Maryland Men’s Senior Open is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at The Country Club of Maryland in Towson.
Local members from Beaver Creek in the huge field of 132 seniors include Greg Henry and Tim Steiner from Washington County and Ira Pearlman, of Bethesda, Md.
* On the prep scene, the Monocacy Valley Athletic League will conduct its Antietam Conference championship at Black Rock on Friday with a shot gun start at 8:30 a.m.

Divots: Another golf season ends, or does it?
