STEPHENS CITY, Va. — Mercersburg Academy was all over the boards on Tuesday, totaling 49 rebounds en route to victory.

Sarah Firestone led the Blue Storm (2-2) with 16 rebounds to go with five points, four steals and three assists. Mackenzie Brink had 13 points and six rebounds, and Melody Gomez added nine points and nine rebounds for Mercersburg.

BOYS SWIMMING

Goretti 74, Hedgesville 22

Josh Semler, Ian Moss and Patrick Jones each won two individual events as the Gaels (2-1) won 10 of 11 events against the Eagles at the Hagerstown YMCA.

Semler won the 100-yard freestyle (54.07 seconds) and 200 freestyle (1 minute, 59.68 seconds), Moss won the 50 freestyle (24.59) and 100 backstroke (1:03.84), and Jones won the 100 butterfly (1:11.28) and 500 freestyle (6:18.24).

Eric Pino won the 200 individual medley (2:43.68) for Goretti, which also won three relays — the 200 medley relay (Moss, Semler, Mitchell Swope and Peter Rettig, 1:59.95), the 200 freestyle relay (Swope, Pino, Jones and Clarence Wroblewski, 1:51.48) and the 400 freestyle relay (Moss, Semler, Jones and Rettig, 3:55.95).

Keeley Scott, Cassidy Lippert and Emma Whelan won two individual events each, and the Gaels (3-0) swept all 11 events against the Eagles.

Scott won the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.44) and 200 freestyle (2:18.96), Lippert won the 100 breaststroke (1:19.90) and 200 individual medley (2:34.78), and Whelan won the 50 freestyle (27.62) and 100 butterfly (1:17.96).

Theresa Barton won the 100 freestyle (1:05.22) and Amanda Meinscheim won the 500 freestyle (6:18.66), for Goretti. The Gaels won the 200 medley relay (Meinscheim, Annie Cochran, Scott and Kaitlyn Barnhart, 2:20.17), the 200 freestyle relay (Lippert, Barton, Whalen and Scott, 1:52.79) and the 400 freestyle relay (Barton, Whalen, Meinscheim and Lippert, 4:12.76), setting a school record in the last event.

Holiday Tennis Tournament

The sixth annual Duston Gibbons Memorial Holiday Tournament will be held Dec. 26-31 at The Tennis Club in Zullinger, Pa. Competitions will be held in Open, Senior and Junior divisions, in male and female singles and doubles and mixed doubles (Open and Junior divisions). Cost is $40 for adult singles, $50 for adult doubles teams, $25 for junior singles and $40 for junior doubles teams. Players must be current USTA members. Deadline to register is Tuesday.
