Injury Report Discouraging

The Kings on Thursday were already wondering just exactly who would be available to play tonight against Edmonton when more bad news hit.

Forward George Parros re-injured his ankle during a workout and was unsure whether he would be in the lineup. He joins the doubtful-to-questionable list that includes center Eric Belanger (groin), center Craig Conroy (flu) and defenseman Aaron Miller (back). Definitely out is forward Jeremy Roenick, who had successful surgery on his left index finger Thursday and will miss four to six weeks.

“We won’t have any idea who can play until tomorrow,” Coach Andy Murray said Thursday.

The early reports didn’t seem encouraging.

“I tweaked it pretty good,” said Parros, who was brought off injured reserve to play against Calgary on Wednesday.

Miller seemed just as pessimistic.

“It feels pretty tight,” he said.

Conroy, meanwhile, was confined to his hotel room Thursday.

And Belanger was weighing whether to risk trying to play.

“With so many guys out, my instincts tell me to go,” he said. “But I’ve got to be smart too. I would rather miss two games now than a whole month later.”

The Kings seem to be leaning toward recalling one or more players from minor league Manchester, with forward Noah Clarke being one consideration.

The Kings had three more players picked for the Olympics on Thursday, with defenseman Mattias Norstrom (Sweden), defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (Slovakia) and forward Pavol Demitra (Slovakia) being officially named to their teams.

For Visnovsky and Demitra, it is a chance to push Slovakia further along in international hockey circles.

“This is my third Olympics and we didn’t get out of the qualification round the last two,” Visnovsky said. “I think right now we are up there with the best teams, America, Russia, Czech, Sweden, Canada. This will be special because it is the best tournament in the world right now.”

The Kings’ Alexander Frolov is a lock for the Russian team.

Murray, who said he would assess forward Luc Robitaille’s performance from Wednesday’s game after he reviewed the tape, was ready to do so Thursday.

“He needs to play better,” Murray said.

Robitaille took four penalties, including three in the first period that led to two power-play goals.
