Defenseman Aaron Miller is expected to return to the Kings’ lineup tonight after sitting out the last 16 games because of a back injury.

“We think Aaron is ready, but we’ll know more tomorrow,” Coach Andy Murray said.

The Kings were sure enough about Miller to make room on the roster, sending defenseman Richard Petiot to minor league Manchester on Wednesday. Center Matt Ryan was also sent to the Kings’ American Hockey League team.

Miller, 34, had battled a bad back throughout the season, and it became progressively worse. He was put on injured reserve after playing 5 minutes 47 seconds against Calgary on Dec. 21.

The injury left Miller’s Olympic participation in question. He was chosen to play for the U.S. in December. Don Waddell, Team USA’s general manager, said Miller would be given time to make the decision himself.

“Aaron has been such a good player for us, we’re going to give him as much time as he needs,” Waddell said. “If he feels ready, that’s great. He’s the only one who will be able to tell.”

Jeremy Roenick will have his broken finger examined by a doctor today to determine whether he is ready to rejoin the team.... Pavol Demitra, out nine games because of nerve damage in his leg, skated on his own Wednesday, the first time he has been on the ice in nearly two weeks.
