LaBarbera out for season

Share

The season has ended for Kings’ No. 1 goalie Jason LaBarbera.

LaBarbera, who hasn’t played since Feb. 18, had surgery Wednesday morning to repair a hernia. The procedure was performed by Craig Smith at the Beach District Surgery Center in Redondo Beach.

The recovery period is at least eight weeks.

“On the positive side, he will have a full recovery,” said Kings Coach Marc Crawford. “It shouldn’t affect his training for next year.”

LaBarbera, 27, has had a checkered season, much like his last-place team. He won four consecutive games in October and his progression hit a roadblock Dec. 1 when he suffered a rib injury against Colorado and did not return until Dec. 17.

He appeared in 45 games this season, going 17-23-2 with a goals-against average of 3.00 and a save percentage of .910.
