Former Kings star Kelly Hrudey pays team a visit
Kelly Hrudey was a welcome visitor at Saturday’s morning skate for the Kings in El Segundo, and if anything, a goalie knows when a fellow goalie has confidence and does not.
Hrudey, who is being honored Saturday night by the Kings as part of their Legends Series, went to work for Hockey Night in Canada after a long NHL playing career. He made the observation that Kings goalie Jonathan Quick “just reeks of confidence” when he is on his game.
Kings Coach Darryl Sutter immediately agreed with Hrudey and expanded on the theme. Quick is expected to start Saturday night against the Flames.
Hrudey noticed that Quick had been hanging his head a bit more than usual.
“He’s gotta get the swagger back,” Sutter said. “I told him yesterday .... Kelly, you know way more about it. You’re dead on. [Quick] came off the bench and won us a game [against the Blues]. That, to me, is character. That’s character in battle. So that’s a really good thing.”
