INSIDER TRADING

Bahama Mama tries to rebound at Hollywood Park

Bahama Mama was cited for interference in her last race at Santa Anita and dropped to fourth.

Disqualified out of a victory at 20-1 in her U.S. debut, Bahama Mama will be a much shorter price Friday night when she makes her first start at Hollywood Park in the $62,000 Lawndale.

Owned by Forging Oaks Farm and trained by Jim Cassidy, Bahama Mama led throughout in the Las Cienegas Handicap on April 13, but was cited for interference when she drifted, crossing the main track portion of the hillside turf course at Santa Anita. For her obvious foul, the 4-year-old daughter of Invincible Spirit was dropped to fourth.

In the Lawndale, Bahama Mama will have only turf and five opponents to deal with in the race at six furlongs.

David Flores will again ride the Irish-bred, who won five of 17 in Europe before coming to this country.

Not a single member of the Lawndale cast has a victory over the Hollywood Park turf.

The only two with local starts are Red Diadem and Macadamia. In her lone grass appearance in Inglewood, Red Diadem was fifth as the favorite against maidens in her second U.S. race on Nov. 5, 2006.

Trained by Doug O’Neill for Javanar Thoroughbreds LLC, Macadamia is winless in three tries on the course. She has finished third twice.

The other entrants are Missvinski, Anamanor and Hammett Star, who upset maidens at 45-1 on April 10 at Santa Anita.

Race of the day: Budge Man, who finished third in the Transylvania on April 4 at Keeneland, will make his turf debut in the ninth race at Churchill Downs. James Lopez will ride the 3-year-old Fusaichi Pegasus gelding for owner Whispering Pines and trainer Kellyn Gorder in the $53,800 allowance at 1 1/16 miles. The only member of the six-horse field with a turf victory at Churchill is Fifty Five, a Dynaformer colt who broke his maiden over the layout last June 27.

One for the road: Gravitational debuts for a new barn and can fire off the bench in the seventh race at Belmont Park. Alan Garcia will ride the 4-year-old son of Swain for owner-breeders Arthur Seeligson III and Ramona Bass and trainer Christophe Clement in the $56,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Gravitational, who has one win in three starts, has been idle since last June 21.

Exotically speaking: A late pick four using No Ka Oi, Mama Lula and Pindaric in the fifth, Dr. Skimming and I Am Game in the sixth, Major Pleasure in the seventh and Cinderella Ella, Burnt, Spring Catch and Titan Queen in the eighth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 3/30. Money (previous day/meet total): $14.60/$176. 40. Total money bet: $208.
