The Imperial High football team received the No. 6 seed in the CIF-San Diego Division IV playoffs and is set to host No. 11 La Jolla High at 7 p.m. Friday. The Tigers are 8-2 overall and finished 4-1 in Imperial Valley League. They face a Vikings squad that is 3-7 overall and finished 1-3 and in fourth place in the Western League. The two haven’t played each other in recent years but they did have one common opponent this season — Valley Center. The Tigers lost to the Valley Center Jaguars, 33-21, in Valley Center while the Vikings also lost to the Jaguars, 24-0. The winner of Friday’s game will advance to play at Imperial Valley League champion Brawley Union High at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in Brawley.



IMPERIAL TIGERS

The Tigers’ offense centers around its rushing game, led by junior fullback Royce Freeman, who averages 211.6 yards per game and 19.6 points per game.

Imperial averages 337.6 yards per game.

Imperial can also throw with junior quarterback Chris Carter. He averages 106.1 yards per game.

Defensively, they’re led by senior linebacker Victor Ponce who averages 12.5 tackles per game and .4 sacks per game. As a team, Imperial averages 72.7 tackles per game.

Imperial also averages 40.1 points per game.



LA JOLLA VIKINGS

The Vikings don’t seem to offer much threat, statistically. La Jolla’s ground game is led by junior running back A.J. Talman, who averages 46.6 yards per game and 3.3 points per game. La Jolla averages 122.2 rushing yards per game.

Junior quarterback Brandon Richmond averages 38.7 passing yards per game and -1.7 yards rushing per game. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass this season.

They average 50.2 passing yards per game and average 14.7 points per game.
