HOLTVILLE — The Imperial High boys’ basketball squad overwhelmed Holtville High, 64-17, in Tuesday night’s Desert League matchup.

Mike Leyvas led the way for the Tigers with 20 points and five rebounds. Dexter Bell had 12 points, four rebounds and two steals; Dejon Wilson had six points and six rebounds, and Chris Carter contributed with two rebounds.

Imperial (11-7, 2-0 DL) travels to play Calexico High at 7 p.m. Friday while Holtville hosts Central Union High at the same time and day.



GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Tigers defeat Vikings, 59-27

IMPERIAL — The Imperial High girls’ basketball team outscored Holtville High, 59-27, in a Desert League game here Tuesday.

Jazleigh Ortiz led the way for the Tigers with 12 points and 11 rebounds; Khiya Mohamed followed with 11 points and 13 rebounds; Sarah Bendix had 14 points, and Ilana Silva had 10.

Imperial (13-7, 2-0 DL) hosts Calexico High on at 7 p.m. Friday and Holtville will play at Central Union High at the same time and day.



Eagles beat Bulldogs, 62-42

CALEXICO — The Southwest High girls’ basketball team beat Calexico High, 62-42, in an Imperial Valley League match Tuesday.

For the Eagles, Paulina Calero had 20 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Evalyn Cota had 18 points, seven rebounds and eight steals. Maci Lerno had 13 points, 17 rebounds and three steals. Elsa Sanchez had six points, seven assists and five steals.

The Eagles (14-6, 2-0 IVL) play again at Calipatria High at 7 p.m. Friday while the Bulldogs (12-8, 1-1 IVL) will play at Imperial at the same time and day.



Wildcats edge Spartans, 46-39

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High girls’ basketball squad squeezed by Central Union High, 46-39, in an Imperial Valley League game here Tuesday.

The Wildcats (10-11, 1-1 IVL) travel to play Palo Verde Valley of Blythe on Friday at 7 p.m., while Central will host Holtville High at the same time.



BOYS’ SOCCER

Wildcats outdo Vikings, 2-1

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High boys’ soccer squad overcame Holtville High, 2-1, in an Imperial Valley League match here Tuesday.

Victor Trucios and Adam Saracusa each booted goals for the Wildcats, while Eber Camarena scored for the Vikings.

Brawley (4-0-2) will host Palo Verde Valley at 6 p.m. Jan. 29. The Vikings will host Southwest High at 6 p.m. Friday.



Eagles outscore Tigers, 4-1

The Southwest High boys’ soccer team defeated Imperial High, 4-1, in an Imperial Valley League game Tuesday in El Centro.

Adrian Rodriguez, Hector Hernandez, Vincent McNeece and George Bursua all scored for the Eagles.

Southwest (6-7-6, 2-1-3 IVL) travels to take on Holtville at 6 p.m. Friday while Imperial (7-9-1, 4-2 IVL) will host Calexico at the same time.



GIRLS’ SOCCER

Tigers down Eagles, 1-0

IMPERIAL — The Imperial High girls’ soccer team shut out Southwest High in Tuesday’s Imperial Valley League game here.

Melissa Gutierrez scored the game’s only goal.

The Tigers (7-9-1, 4-2 IVL) host Calexico High at 6 p.m. Friday while the the Eagles (6-8-1, 1-5-1 IVL) travel to Blythe to take on Palo Verde Valley High at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 1



Vikings shut out Wildcats, 1-0

HOLTVILLE — The Holtville High girls’ soccer squad beat Brawley Union High, 1-0, in an Imperial Valley League match here Tuesday.

Xochitl Garcia scored for the Vikings, assisted by teammate Karen Ponce.

Holtville (10-6, 4-2 IVL) plays Southwest High in El Centro on at 6 p.m. Friday while Brawley travels to take on Imperial at 6 p.m. Feb. 1.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Bulldogs beat Eagles, 31-12

CALEXICO — The Calexico High girls’ junior varsity basketball team proved too much for Southwest High, defeating it, 31-12, in Tuesday’s Imperial Valley League game.

For the Bulldogs, Alexa Lopez had nine points, Alina Romero had eight and Lisa Vizcarra and Ashley Romero each scored six.

Calexico will travel to play Imperial High at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
