Morales Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Academy is a certified jiu-jitsu gym where students learn from top experts from all over the world in a safe, friendly and ego-free environment.
At 5 p.m. today the academy will bring in its biggest name to date as Ultimate Fighting Championships Hall of Famer Royce Gracie will hold a two-hour Brazilian jiu-jitsu seminar.
“I’ve known Royce for a long time and I asked him to come down and teach a seminar for our academy,” academy owner Robert Morales said. “We are one of the only certified jiu-jitsu gyms in the Imperial Valley and now that the UFC continues to get bigger and bigger we want to grow jiu-jitsu locally and I think this is going to take a big step in that direction.”
Gracie has a long list of accomplishments in his jiu-jitsu and fighting career, including being the first UFC champion and the first voted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Gracie will be accompanied by current UFC lightweight Ben Henderson and an unknown jiu-jitsu practitioner.
“We are really packed right now after getting exposure about it on UFC.com we have around five to six spaces open,” Morales said. “We even have a few people that are just going to be spectators so a lot of people are excited about this.”
“We are proud and happy to have Royce down her in the Valley,” Morales said. “I want to thank the community and everyone that have been supporting the academy.”
The seminar will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Morales Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Academy at 690 Main St. Suite-A in El Centro.
The cost is $75 per person and there are only a handful of spots available. For more information call 760-960-8001.
