ANCHORAGE, Alaska —
Brent Thompson continues to rise in the hockey coaching ranks.
Thompson, who led the Alaska Aces to the Kelly Cup title in 2011, has been named an assistant coach with the NHL's New York Islanders. After leaving Alaska following the 2011 ECHL championship, he spent one season coaching the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, leading them to a division title with a record of 41-26-9.
The Islanders represent Thompson's third job in the last four years.
