The Royals waited until the last possible moment to announce the signing of their top draft pick Bubba Starling. The outfielder out of Gardener-Edgerton highschool outside of Kansas City had been in football camp at Nebraska, where he had signed to play football and baseball. Financial details of his signing bonus weren't immediatly released, although there are reports that Starling commanded $7.5 million.
Starling is expected to play in the Arizona Instructional League this fall before training camp convenes at the end of February. The Royals were 7-4 losers to the New York Yankees Monday night, despite three hits from 2nd baseman Johnny Giovatelli.
