The Rams might have suffered more than a loss on Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Rookie quarterback Jared Goff left the game and was being evaluated for a concussion after absorbing a fourth-quarter hit in the Rams’ 24-3 defeat at CenturyLink Field.

Goff, the No. 1 pick in the draft, was injured after scrambling and absorbing a hit by Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

Goff got up and went to the Rams’ huddle, but officials called a medical timeout and Goff was removed from the game and then escorted to the locker room.

Goff’s injury was another blow for a franchise that was humiliated by the Atlanta Falcons four days before and fired Coach Jeff Fisher on Monday.

John Fassel took some chances and tried to inject some life into the Rams in his debut as interim coach.

He went for it on fourth down, called for long passes and fake punts and even lined up an offensive lineman in the backfield.

But that was hardly enough against the Seahawks.

The Rams lost for the ninth time in 10 games and dropped to 4-10.

The Seahawks beat the Rams for the first time in four games and clinched the NFC West by improving to 9-4-1.

Before he was injured, Goff continued to struggle on a night when the Rams worst-in-the-NFL offense produced 183 yards.

Goff was trying to bounce back from last Sunday’s performance against the Falcons, when he had two passes intercepted – including a pick six – and had the ball stripped and returned for a touchdown.

On Thursday, he completed 13 of 25 passes for 135 yards. He was sacked five times.

Todd Gurley rushed for 38 yards in 14 carries, 22 yards coming on one carry.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who had five passes intercepted in last week’s loss at Green Bay, completed 19 of 26 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception.

Both teams looked sluggish four days after embarrassing losses on Sunday.

Wilson gave the Seahawks a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a short touchdown pass to tight end Luke Willson.

The Seahawks added a field goal, but the Rams pulled to within, 10-3, with a Greg Zuerlein field goal just before halftime.

The Rams appeared to create a break in the third quarter when linebacker Bryce Hager intercepted a pass in the end zone. But officials ruled that he did not have control of the ball when his second foot came down inbounds.

Wilson then tossed a short pass to Doug Baldwin for a 17-3 lead.

He added a 57-yard touchdown pass to receiver Tyler Lockett early in the fourth quarter for a 24-3 lead.

Later, Aaron Donald was called for a personal foul for throwing the referees flag that landed near him.

Meanwhile, Jared Goff is being evaluated for a concussion.

The guys will be ready to go.

— Rams interim coach John Fassel

Talk about a cold business.

Three days after their coach was fired — and four days after suffering a humiliating defeat in front of booing home fans — the Rams will play Thursday night in 30-degree temperatures against a perennial playoff team on a mission to secure a first-round postseason bye.

And do it in the NFL’s loudest stadium.

It’s probably a fitting final trip for a team traveling 35,952 air miles this season.

But few could have predicted the Rams would reach this final destination with a special teams coordinator serving as interim coach, a rookie quarterback making his fifth start, a frustrated running back lamenting what he described as “a middle-school offense,” and rumors swirling about who will lead the franchise in 2017 going forward.

If nothing else, the Rams are once again the talk of the NFL.

Rams will try to put difficult week behind them

The Rams must put a short and tumultuous week behind them quickly Thursday when they kickoff against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.

Last Sunday the Rams dropped to 4-9 after an embarrassing 42-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at the Coliseum and Coach Jeff Fisher was fired Monday morning.

This will be special teams coordinator John Fassel’s first game as coach. He said in a news conference Monday that he was surprised the front office named him the interim coach and that he had a lot to learn before leading the team Thursday night.

Fassel should be able to lean on defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and assistant head coach Dave McGinnis, both of whom have experience as an NFL head coach.

The Seahawks are 8-4-1 and in first place in the NFC West. They lost to the Green Bay Packers, 38-10, last Sunday in Green Bay.

Rams pass offense vs. Seahawks pass defense: After progressing in his first three starts, rookie quarterback Jared Goff struggled mightily last week against the Falcons. He had two passes intercepted — one was returned for a touchdown — and also had the ball stripped and returned for a touchdown. Goff is completing only 55% of his passes, four for touchdowns, with five interceptions. His receivers continue to be plagued by drops, but he also missed some open throws. The Seahawks rank ninth in the NFL in pass defense, giving up 231.5 yards a game. End Cliff Avril has 10 sacks, end Frank Clark 71/2. Star safety Earl Thomas suffered a broken leg two weeks ago.

EDGE: Seahawks.

Rams run offense vs. Seahawks run defense: After the loss to the Falcons, Todd Gurley said it looked as if the Rams were running a “middle school offense.” Gurley has rushed for 740 yards and five touchdowns. He is averaging 3.3 yards per carry. Gurley has not run for more than 85 yards in game this season. Benny Cunningham is out for the second consecutive week because of a neck injury. The Seahawks are giving up 104.2 yards rushing per game, which ranks 19th in the NFL. Linebackers Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright are the top tacklers for a unit that gave up 93 yards rushing in last week’s loss at Green Bay.
