Corona Centennial’s Michael Eubank is The Times’ back of the year

Michael Eubank is one confident teenager. There were many observers who thought that the 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior had no business playing quarterback for Corona Centennial.

He was a tight end, a receiver, maybe a linebacker, they said, but certainly not a quarterback.

Eubank wouldn’t listen.

He insisted he could be a top quarterback, and he proved it this season, passing for 2,831 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushing for 1,329 yards and 19 touchdowns in helping the Huskies win the Inland Division championship and finish 14-1.

Eubank has been selected The Times’ back of the year.

He was the catalyst for an offense that averaged 54 points a game. He started the year with one scholarship offer and ended it by accepting a scholarship to Arizona State.

“He had a fantastic year,” Coach Matt Logan said. “He was a great leader on and off the field.”
