Sharks’ Raffi Torres might need surgery

The San Jose Sharks will be without forward Raffi Torres for the start of the season because of an injured right knee.

Torres was injured in a collision with Ducks forward Emerson Etem on Friday night.

Torres and the Sharks will decide in the next few days whether he needs surgery. If he rehabilitates the injury, he might miss only the first month. If he needs surgery, he would probably be sidelined three to four months.

The Sharks signed Torres to a three-year, $6-million contract in June.

The St. Louis Blues added depth at forward, signing veteran Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract.

The 34-year-old Morrow had six goals and eight assists in his final 15 regular-season games with Pittsburgh, which had acquired him from Dallas at the trade deadline.

Before playing for the Penguins, Morrow spent his entire 13-year career with the Stars.

Erika de Souza scored 10 of her 18 points during the fourth quarter and the Atlanta Dream beat the Washington Mystics, 80-72, in the decisive Game 3 of their WNBA first-round series at Atlanta.

The Dream advanced to face the fourth-seeded Indiana Fever in the Eastern Conference finals, which will begin Thursday at Atlanta.

The Fever, which won the WNBA championship last season, eliminated top-seeded Chicago in two games.

The LPGA announced that the 2017 Solheim Cup will be held at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club.

The biennial contest between teams of European and American golfers was held in Colorado last month, with Europe winning, 18-10.

The Solheim Cup, which features 12 golfers on each team in a match-play format, will be in Germany in 2015 before going to Iowa.
