Teams to play on three straight nights under NBA schedule
The NBA’s condensed 66-game schedule is starting to form.
The collective-bargaining agreement has not officially been ratified, but the league acknowledged Sunday that each team must endure at least one of the dreaded back-to-back-to-back situations.
Teams haven’t had to play games on three consecutive nights since the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season. Some teams will have to do it three times, the NBA said.
There might even be some back-to-backs for playoff teams that take part in the conference semifinals.
The league did not release any specifics yet, but each team will play 48 conference games and 18 non-conference games. Teams will not travel to every NBA arena.
The regular season begins Dec. 25 and ends April 28, two weeks later than last season. The last possible date for the NBA Finals is June 26, about two weeks later than usual.
The Lakers are currently scheduled to begin their season Christmas Day against Chicago at Staples Center. The rest of their schedule will be announced this week.
